Nominated for a 2011 Hugo Award

I joined Clarkesworld in October 2009 as the Podcast Director. I’ve seen my share of wonderful recognition from both the authors whose stories I’ve read and the fans who listen. Last year, the podcast was nominated for a Parsec Award. Later that year, Clarkesworld was voted as the winner of the  best semi-prozine Hugo Award. This year, Clarkesworld has once again been selected as a finalist for a Hugo Award. The difference is that I am on the ballot. So that means if we win the award, I will not only be able to promote myself as a Hugo Award winner, but will have a really neat rocket trophy to prove it. I am both humbled and excited that the fans of the podcast and of the magazine thought us fit to make the ballot again. Here’s to August in Reno.

Good luck, my friend. I’m not eligible to vote this year, but I’ll hold good thoughts for you.

Ooooooh! Can I play with it when you win?

Congratulations on the nomination, Kate! I wish I was eligible to vote for you.

For future reference, if any of the above commenters is reading, “eligible to vote” means “paid the $50 membership.” And for that $50 you get well more than $50 worth of free ebooks: most or all of the Hugo-nominated works for that year. If you’re going to spend $50 on books in a year anyway, save that money for a Worldcon membership.

Too late now, but I kind of expect Clarkesworld to be nominated next year as well, especially if it doesn’t win this year.

Someday I’m going to be on the ballot too, and I expect you all to vote for me. (By that time Kate will have her umpteenth Hugo, and have declined the nomination. And you all will have voted for her in all of those years. Not that we’d be in the same category.)
